The Timbertop Brown Bear Family

Picture
FATHER TAYLOR TIMBERTOP is a great big softy who adores his children, showering them with hugs and kisses whenever he gets the chance. He is always ready to change a nappy or help with homework, not that he is very good at either.

MOTHER ROSE TIMBERTOP loves not only her own children, but all the children in Sylvania, which is why her house is always full of noisy youngsters having fun. There are so many in her house everyday, it's hard to tell which ones belong to her!

OLDER BROTHER BIRCH TIMBERTOP is a great explorer; he knows every path, trail, cave, hollow tree and inch of the Sylvanian woods. He is adding all this knowledge to the collection of maps and diagrams that he is busily creating.

OLDER SISTER IVY TIMBERTOP loves sewing and needlepoint. The first shirt she made was for her father; it was not one of her better creations! Taylor claims it's his favourite shirt and would never take it off, if Rose didn't insist on washing it!

YOUNGER BROTHER BUD TIMBERTOP is very keen on all types of sport. Whether it's swimming, running, jumping, rugby or tennis. Bud is always the first in line. He spends every spare moment training for this or that sport, all in the hope that one day he'll win a race or game and therefore a silver cup, which he would give to his mother.

YOUNGER SISTER DAISY TIMBERTOP wants to be older so she can cook without her mother's help or sew without her sister's help. Maybe, if she were older and taller, her father would stop calling her 'his little cherub!'

BABY BROTHER BURL TIMBERTOP takes after his oldest brother, Birch, in that if you let him loose in the house he goes off exploring. He's been found in every nook and cranny, including inside the broom cupboard and under the table. He was even once found inside the grandfather clock!

BABY SISTER BLOSSOM TIMBERTOP is a really happy baby. All day long she giggles and laughs. With her brother Burl always appearing in the most unusual places, she has plenty to laugh about!

GRANDFATHER GUS TIMBERTOP loves honey. He knows where all the bees live so he can collect it himself. He has never once been stung by a bee when collecting honey, which is quite impressive considering he never wears any protective clothing. He taught Horace Honey Bear everything he knows about beekeeping

GRANDMOTHER FERN TIMBERTOP is famous for her Cranberry pie, made from a secret recipe of forest berries. It's an old family recipe, which has been passed down through generations. She has promised to pass the recipe on to her granddaughters when they are older.

NANNY TIMBERTOP is a very jolly lady and all the children love her. She knows all the words and actions to every nursery rhyme and joins in all the fun and games while the babies play in the nursery. She has been looking after baby Timothy Babblebrook since he was 3 months old. They are now firm friends and can always be seen together around the Sylvanian village. Nanny can often be found in the Village Store buying baby toiletries and milk, or going for long walks in the woods.

AUNTIE ALICE TIMBERTOP is kept very busy with her two sons. One of them is always getting asked to be a page boy at the village weddings, while the other son is accident prone. If Alice ever gets any spare time, which is very rare, she likes to pop along to the Blackcurrant Cafe where she can have a large cup of tea and catch up with her good friend Marian Brighteyes.

COUSIN PETER TIMBERTOP is thought of as such a good, neat, kind and clean little boy by everyone in Sylvania. Indeed, that is why he is always asked to be a pageboy at weddings. But we have news for you. Peter is really a very, very, very naughty little boy. He does awful things like pulling the bow out of poor Pippa Babblebrook's hair when the grown ups are not looking and singing the wrong words to hymns (but only loud enough for Pippa to hear!) In fact, Peter is doing naughty things all the time, but never ever gets caught. Instead other people like poor Pippa get the blame.

COUSIN BURTON TIMBERTOP is very accident prone. He spends a lot of his time in the Village Hospital, being looked after by Nurse Emily Nightingale and Doctor Murdoch. He has broken almost every bone in his body because of mis-adventure. The last time he broke his leg was because he climbed to the top of the large oak tree at the edge of the Sylvanian woods, and then fell off the top branch. His mother Alice hopes he will grow out of this phase very soon!

The Timbertop family are one of the Original families in the Sylvanian range, launched in Japan at the very beginning, and also being one of the first launched in the UK. They are a large family, consisting of the parents, two older siblings, two younger siblings, two babies and a set of grandparents. The Evergreen family were the same upon launch. In the UK, the Timbertop and Evergreen families were the only family with older siblings (until the late 2000s with the launch of the Celebration sets), but in Japan, the Babblebrooks and Wildwoods were launched with older siblings also. Originally, the younger bear siblings had non-poseable limbs, but later releases saw them with moving limbs. The Timbertop family were released in Woolworths in the UK with the windmill as an exclusive boxed set in the mid 1990s, with the mother wearing a pink dress instead of a blue dress. An early years edition of the family were released in 1997, with the parents a smaller size than the usual large bear size, depicting them in the early days of their marriage, with a baby also. Peter was released exclusively through the token collectors club in the UK, coming paired with Pippa the bridesmaid. Nanny Timbertop was released in 1993, with baby Timothy and a pram. In 2008, the family got a special re-release as the second family launched as a 'Celebration' set. The first family (the Babblebrooks) were released the previous year to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Sylvanians in the UK. The Celebration Timbertop family consisted of seven family members, omitting a baby and the grandparents. The family wore either the same, or slightly altered clothing to the original release.
