The Hazelnut Dormouse Family
FATHER SIDNEY HAZELNUT is a bed maker and a very good one too! His beds are highly sought after because Sidney takes great care in their making. He also insists on testing each and every one of them himself, once they are complete and ready to deliver. Unfortunately, because they are so comfortable, he keeps falling asleep and therefore falls behind with his work, resulting in him not keeping up with his customers' demands. His order book is always full, with orders for single beds, double beds, four poster beds, bunk beds, fold out beds and beds made out of different materials such as brass or cast iron. Between his yawns he tells his customers: ''The only beds I don't make are flower beds!'' This little joke of his always makes him laugh, along with his estimate on when a customer's new bed will be ready. ''Your bed will be ready in a week or three, give or take a week!''
MOTHER MONA HAZELNUT complements her husband, Sidney's work perfectly, by making bed linen, quilts, pillows and bed covers. Mona has a sewing room-come-studio at the back of her husband's workshop, where she designs and makes all of her bedding. Mona's new designs are beautifully colour co-ordinated, with great attention paid to detail in the trim and finish, but most importantly, they keep you warm, snug and cosy in bed! Mona's other passion is her children, who she fusses and worries over. She is also their 'Taxi Service' as Sidney is not keen on driving the family car. So some weekends Mona will drive from the football pitch to the swimming pool, then to the school hall for ballet lessons, then back to pick up from football, swimming, ballet and that is just the morning taxi service!
BROTHER OTTO HAZELNUT, like his father, loves his bed. His mother has to call him at least three times every morning to get up for school. However, Saturday morning is different. This is the day Otto plays football and he gets himself up, dressed and grabs a quick breakfast and is seated in the car ready to go off to play, without one prompt from his mother. Ottos' other great interest is rambling as he really enjoys the pleasures of exploring the countryside of Sylvania with whoever wants to join him on his adventures.
SISTER ODETTE HAZELNUT is a very quiet, softly spoken, shy young lady. All her school friends make a point to look after her, making sure that she is alright! Whether in the classroom or on the school bus, they take it in turns to check that she has not fallen asleep again! Odette only seems to wake up from her sleepy state for her ballet lessons, which she just loves. She is not very tall or slim or graceful and knows she won't be a great ballerina who steals the show but she just loves dancing with her friends and being teased about taking the lead role in Sleeping Beauty.
TWINS JOE AND JAN HAZELNUT just love to snuggle up together. One of their favourite spots is on the front room settee, giggling together as they play amongst the cushions. Their other love is to snuggle up in their mother's studio in the large box of offcuts and scraps of material.
BABY BROTHER NED HAZELNUT is the only lively member of the family. Ned is noisy and boisterous and he doesn't walk anywhere, he always skips along at great speed.
The Hazelnut Dormouse family were first released into the UK Sylvanian range in 2008, the same year as the Chocolate Rabbit family, the Persian cat family and the Celebration Timbertop family. They were not released into the Japan market, and were more of an exclusive to the UK. They have only had one release at present. They were the last family to get their biography written in the Sylvanian Families fan club magazine in 2015, before the club was taken over by EPOCH.
