The McFarlane Bear Family
FATHER NICHOLAS McFARLANE runs the local pottery shop, specialising in home-made pots and vases. Everyday he sits at his potters wheel, making something stylish. His vases are very popular with the local villagers, and also the tourists to Sylvania. Sometimes, he allows St. John's School to do day trips to his shop where he allows the students to practice making their own vases and also teaches them the basics.
MOTHER ELIZABETH McFARLANE works alongside her husband Nicholas in the pottery shop. She prefers to serve the customers than to make anything as she hates how dirty she gets. Her favourite item in her house, is a beautiful vase that Nicholas made for her on their wedding anniversary. She makes sure it is always on display with a lovely bunch of flowers in it.
SISTER JANET McFARLANE has been practicing her potter skills for several years now. She still can not get the necks on her vases correct though. Her favourite past-time is making decorative plates with her fathers clay.
BABY BROTHER ALBIE McFARLANE loves his food and squeals with joy when he is sat in his baby highchair. His parents are careful when they take him to work with them, as he gets really excited by the sight of the spinning wheel his father uses. It also gets very messy and his mother doesn't want to be washing dry clay out of his fur late at night!
The McFarlane Bear family were originally released in Europe as part of the Easy Buy Range, a cheaper Sylvanian to encourage people new to collecting. The Easy Buy Range are more basic than the regular Sylvanian Figures and have less detail. For example, the bears and Rabbits do not have tails, and the clothes are cheaper than on a normal figure. In 2012/2013 Flair launched some of the easy buy sets in the UK, but as a family of three, the parents and a baby. The sister figures were not released. These sets were cheaper than a normal family set, but came with an item of furniture or an accessory to go with the baby. They were classed as 'The New Arrival' sets.
