The Farthing Dog Family
FATHER JOSHUA FARTHING is the manager of the restaurant in the Regency Hotel. His good friends Duke and Queenie run the hotel, and he agreed to manage their restaurant in the hotel for them. He often tries to chose a very exquisite menu, always checking with chef Basil Hazelwood that he has the ingredients for all these exquisite creations.
MOTHER CLARISSA FARTHING often helps out her good friend, Queenie Depembroke, at the Regency Hotel. Clarissa will often answer the phone at the hotel in her most charming voice, dealing with guest bookings or queries. She also helps out at the reception desk, greeting visitors to Sylvania and informing them of all the nice places to visit during their stay.
BROTHER ANDRE FARTHING is a very keen tennis player. Whenever he has a spare moment, you will find him with his tennis racket on the tennis courts, looking for someone to have a game with. He is extremely quick during his matches as well, very rarely being beaten by a rival.
SISTER CALLIE FARTHING likes to spend her spare time doing embroidery. What started as a hobby to pass the time has escalated though. Whereas she used to be happy just embroidering a pattern for a picture, she has now started making patterns on her clothes. Her mother has noticed a big talent in Callie, and has suggested she visits Mortimer Bramble in the boutique and offer to put designs on some of his latest fashions.
BABY SISTER MELINDA FARTHING can be very noisy at times. Her parents mistakenly bought her a baby drum for Christmas, and now she loves spending her days banging away on it. Her mother has tried hiding it away in a cupboard, but somehow Melinda always seems to find it.

FATHER HARLEY FARTHING loves spending a hot summers day on the beach with his family. He usually has his rucksack packed the previous evening in anticipation of the next day being sunny. He has all the essentials packed for a full day at the beach, a radio, comfortable blanket, towels, games and a packed lunch.
MOTHER PENNY FARTHING likes to set out early each morning on her bicycle to get freshly baked bread from the Watermill Bakery. She usually takes her youngest child, Rally, who sits patiently in the basket on the bicycle for the journey. She is often at the bakery just as Christopher Apple-Blossom is opening his doors. He always has her fresh loaf ready for her, still warm from the oven.
BROTHER VESPA FARTHING, is exactly like his father. Every summer he looks forward to their day trips to the beach. While his father Harley sits in his deckchair reading the paper, or snoozing in the sun, Vespa is off having fun, playing games like volleyball with his good friend Sunny Blackberry.
SISTER WREN FARTHING enjoys the family trips to the beach, as it gives her a chance to collect sea shells. She started collecting them at such a young age that now she has almost a hundred. She has recently started making them into things, such as jewellery for her mother. Her proudest item so far, is a vase she has covered from top to bottom with shells. She has it in her bedroom window, filled with flowers each day.
BABY BROTHER RALLY FARTHING enjoys going out with his mother on her bicycle each morning to the bakery. He especially likes it as some times Christopher Apple-Blossom gives him a warm bit of crust to chew on for the journey home.
BABY SISTER SALLY FARTHING is a quiet young child. She is quite content just sitting in her playpen playing with a teddy bear.
The Maroon Dog family were first released in Japan in 1988, as part of the 'Urban Life' range, a range of Sylvanians in more upmarket outfits, and much more exquisite buildings and furniture. The Urban Life range launched the previous year. Many of the furniture items were released into the UK market a few years later, but were given a green colouring, instead of the more sophisticated brown wood effects which Japan had. The Maroon Dog family is one of the more obscure Urban Life families, very rarely appearing on E-Bay or Rinkya. The Maroon Dog family did not join the UK market until 2007, when various members of the family were released as individual playsets. They were given the family name of Farthing. The mother was released with baby son, in a bicycle playset. Father and son came as a beach set. The sitting baby sister came with an Ivory dog baby as part of the Ferris wheel playset. The sister was a free figure with the Applewood Cottage. The parents and son figure are still available in 2015, in their playsets, but the sister has been discontinued.
