The Buckley Red Deer Family
FATHER RUPERT BUCKLEY is head of games at Berry Grove School. He is very enthusiastic and encourages all the young Sylvanians to do their best in games. Rupert is also very enthusiastic about healthy eating, and likes to make salads and soups using ingredients grown in his own vegetable garden.
MOTHER AGATHA BUCKLEY is the head teacher at Berry Grove School. Even when she was little, Agatha was very academic and always had her homework finished long before her friends. Being very kind though, she always helped others once she had finished. But of course, she made sure it was all their own work as copying is cheating!
BROTHER FREDDIE BUCKLEY loves to paint. His favourite lesson at school is art and he is always getting his friends to sit still in the playground or on the school field so he can paint their portraits. Freddie is actually getting very good, and spends every lunch time in the art room practising. He even sold some paintings at the Village Show this summer.
SISTER MARIA BUCKLEY is never happier than when in the water. She is a champion swimmer and has lots of badges on her swimming costume. Her father, Rupert, coaches her at weekends and after school down at the lake and is very proud of his little girl.
SISTER MILLIE BUCKLEY loves cycling and taking in the wonderful sights of Sylvania. As she cycles in the woods she likes to reference all the butterflies and birds she sees, and sometimes stops to take pictures. Then later on she sits down for a bite to eat from her lunch bag before heading off again!
SISTER JESSICA BUCKLEY comes from a sporting family, so it's not surprising that she wanted to take part in the Sylvanian Games. She is a very skilled runner, so will be taking part in all the running events. She is up against her friend Ron Barker, but she is getting in some extra training to make sure she is in tip-top condition for the games.
TWIN BABIES MATTHEW AND LILY BUCKLEY want to be like their big brother, Freddie, and are never happier than when colouring with their crayons. The rest of the family has to keep a very close eye on them because Matthew and Lily haven’t quite learned the difference between the drawing paper and the dining room wall yet; much to their mother Agatha’s dismay!
BABY BROTHER OSCAR BUCKLEY can quite often be heard before he is seen! Not because he is particularly loud, but because he talks all the time. Since he spoke his first words he has become increasingly chatty and his parents find it difficult to get him to go to sleep in the evening as he wants to stay up and talk some more!
BABY SISTER MIRANDA BUCKLEY wants to be just like her big sister Maria when she gets older, so much so she asked her mother to get her a dress like her sister, which she wears with pride. The trouble is, the last time she tried copying her sister's swimming, she jumped into the water wearing all her clothes and caught a cold.
BABY SISTER LUCILLE BUCKLEY is the quietest member of her family, happy to just sit in a corner playing with her building blocks. Sometimes her mother has to check on her, just to make sure she is still there!
The Buckley Red Deer Family were first released into the UK Sylvanian range in 2010, after being available in Japan the previous year. Two extra sister figures were released into the UK family (although labelled cousins) in different playset releases. The first one was Jessica, coming with Ron Barker in a special set released exclusively for the UK market to celebrate the Olympic Games. The other sister was Millie, and she was released in 2012 as part of the holiday range, and came with a bicycle. The extra two baby figures are Japan exclusives. The one with the smart dress was a keychain baby (I have removed the chain part) and the other came with a silk cat baby and a chocolate rabbit baby in a special nursery set.
