The Tanuki Family
FATHER KENNETH TANUKI is a music teacher at St Francis School. He is an accomplished musician, able to play a variety of instruments, including the trumpet, saxophone, piano and flute. He is very passionate about music and spends many hours composing musical scores for his students to play during lessons. Whenever the school is putting on a Christmas Pantomine, Kenneth is always ready to create the musical numbers.
MOTHER JOYCE TANUKI is the librarian at St. Francis School. She is always ready to help any young Sylvanian find the correct text book they need to help with their studies. In her spare time, Joyce loves reading up about the history of the local area. You can usually find her conversing with Bertram Bamboo about all things old.
BROTHER BARRY TANUKI is an avid photographer. His parents got him a really good camera for Christmas, so in his spare time he is usually out with his good friend Byron Underwood taking pictures of the Sylvanian Village and woodland.
SISTER CHRISTIE TANUKI is quite the bookworm, like her mother! Whereas her mother loves reading up about the history of the Sylvanian village, Christie is more into reading books about faraway lands and countries. She is hoping to travel the world when she is older, so she can visit the lands she has read about.
The Tanuki family were one of the original families released in Japan, back in 1985 when Sylvanian Families were first launched. They were an exclusive release to Japan, being as a Tanuki is a 'Racoon-Dog' animal found solely in Japan. The family use the same mould as the original Slydale Fox family, but are of a much darker colouring. There were also babies released with the family, however I currently do not own any of them. In the late 1980's, in Japan, you could get Sylvanian figures with Happy Meals. Some Tanuki figures did come with the meals, but are of a different size and wearing different clothing. You can usually find Tanuki figures on Rinkya, although they occasionally appear on E-Bay, however they can go for quite a high price. The family had no official names or biography given to them, so I have created my own.
