The Spotter Meerkat Family
FATHER HARRY SPOTTER is the most alert and watchful resident in all Sylvania – and it is a good job too as he must make sure that no wildfires break out in the forest. As this vital role demands his total concentration, the other Sylvanians have learnt not to take it too personally if Harry ignores them completely. His wife has been known to lose patience with him on occasion though. Especially when they are at a family party and Harry jumps up in a panic every time the barbecue sends up a little smoke! “But how can I possibly relax near burning charcoal, my dear?” Harry always asks with a hurt look upon his face. “Wildfire spotters can never take a day off, you know!” And Beatrix has to admit that under Harry's watch Sylvania is probably the safest place on earth.
MOTHER BEATRIX SPOTTER is as calm and serene as her husband is jumpy and jittery. “Opposites always attract!” she is fond of saying, especially in the evenings when Harry's vigilant brown eyes are still firmly fixed upon the woods whilst hers are fixed upon her favourite television show. Acorn Antiques is on twice a week and she hates to miss it! But during the day Beatrix likes to keep herself as busy as her husband. Just like Rose Timbertop she loves looking after children and can often be found babysitting as many as twenty at a time. She bakes them fairy cakes and reads them fairy stories – and then she counts them every fifteen minutes to make sure they are all still there!
BROTHER ALFIE SPOTTER always seems to have his head buried in a book. He often gets so absorbed in an adventure story that he completely forgets what day it is! Once he even turned up for school on a Saturday and was so relieved when he could simply go back home and lose himself in tales of swashbucklers and adventurers. Yet Alfie is proud to tell everyone he meets that in real life his father is his hero – even if he can be a little preoccupied at times! When he was younger Alfie used to play up a little to get his father's attention, but now he knows better than to do that. After all, if Harry is chasing after him, who is going to be chasing after the wild fires!
SISTER GAIL SPOTTER would much rather go for a long walk in the Sylvanian forest than read a book like her brother. She particulary enjoys strolling along by the river and picking up any wild flowers that have fallen onto the ground. Her mother recently showed her how to dry the rose petals and lavender buds and turn them into potpourri. But the only problem with Gail's new hobby is that some members of her family don't appreciate their cottage smelling like a garden! Her brother hides his potpourri under his bed, for example, whilst her father wrinkles his nose suspiciously whenever he walks into the bathroom! Even her grandfather once confused the dried lavender buds with trail mix, although he soon discovered his mistake, of course!
TRIPLET BABIES PENELOPE, PEREGRINE AND PRUDENCE SPOTTER are never apart and spend their days wrestling and sleeping...and then wrestling and sleeping some more. Their favourite food is peanut butter and if their mother would let them, they would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner too!

GRANDFATHER CLIFF SPOTTER is very proud of Harry – he knows thatspotting wildfires is one of the most important jobs in the forest. Cliff likes to make himself useful too and often helps his son out when he is extra busy during the hottest summer days. But Harry never puts his father on duty for too long as he realises he is not as young as he used to be. Cliff has a habit of falling asleep in the afternoon, especially if he has been very active earlier in the day. Cliff is the captain of the Sylvanian crown green bowling team and plays the game a couple of mornings a week on the village green, “At my age it's the best way I know of keeping fit!” he tells Harry proudly.
GRANDMOTHER CLARICE SPOTTER likes to keep active too. She regulary looks after her grandchildren when their parents are busy. At the beginning she couldn't tell Penelope, Prudence or Peregrine apart and often called them by the wrong names, much to the triplet's amusement. Her husband Cliff was always telling her to go and get tested for some new spectacles. But now Calrice just taps her nose knowingly and replies sweetly, “Don't you worry, my dear, I can see all I need to see!” And provided the triplets are dressed in the right colour (Penelope in red, Prudence in yellow and Peregrine in blue) she is absolutely right!
The Spotter Meerkat family were first introduced to the UK Sylvanian Families range in 2010, consisting of the main family of four and a set of three babies. The grandparents were added to the family in 2011. They are the only meerkats in the range at present, and were originally created for the UK market by Flair. The family are still available in the range in 2015.
